 In the mornig of March 12, 2004, a series of blasts occured in three stations in the capital Madrid during rush-hour, causing 191 deaths and 1,755 injured. In an interview by Tony Jones with professor George Joffe, Al-Qaeda was not behind these attacks.

This was Europe’s worst terrorist attack since the Lockerbie bombing. The attack came just 72 hours before Spain’s general election.
“This is a massacre,” said government spokesman Educardo Zapalana.
